How might we use Augmented Reality to enhance theatre viewing experience?

Technodramatists is a theatre and technology company that integrates state of the art emerging tech into live performance. This project is an attempt to enhance the theatre viewing experience by bringing in eye captivating virtual elements that defy physics to the real world through the lens of a camera. By tracking performers’ movement and expression, a variety of captivating virtual elements unite with the reality and provide a new dimension of theatre experience. We achieved this with the power of augmented reality and live visual effects.

PRODUCTION

Off-off Broadway show Alibi uses Absolute motion technology

Our first production Alibi uses this technology and it went live on Feb 6, 2021. Inspired by Tristen Tzara’s 1924 French Dadaist play Handkerchief of Clouds, Alibi is an augmented reality theatre production that immerses the audience in a love triangle told through fragments of movement, music and absurdity. When one of the lovers is murdered, a private investigator uses augmented reality, motion capture and voice recognition software to solve the homicide.
